The history of the university can be traced back to 130 years when West Ham Technical Institute was established in 1892. It gained university status in 1992.

Located at the heart of East London, the university has two campus - Stratford, near the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, and in London Docklands, near Royal Albert Dock. Major global businesses, creative industries and start-ups are based out of East London, which is also one of the most culturally diverse regions of London.

Six faculties of the university, namely, Faculty of Architecture, Computing and Engineering, Faculty of Arts and Digital Industries, Faculty of Business, Faculty of Education and Communities, Faculty of Health, Sport and Biosciences, Faculty of Law and Social Sciences and Faculty of Psychology offers over 173 undergraduate courses and 133 postgraduate courses.

  • Sports Scholarships (Up to £6,000 per year)
  • Young Independent Student Bursary (up to £1,500 renewable yearly): Support for care experienced and estranged students.
  • Engagement Bursary (Up to £3,000): Support for students from low-income households, targeting childcare, outside London travel, DSA computer equipment, and summer support costs.
  • Progression Bursary (Up to £3,000): Support for students from low-income households, targeting final year course costs, graduate interview costs, and reasonable adjustment costs for students with disabilities undertaking co-curricular activities.
  • Hardship Bursary (Up to £3,000): Support for students from low-income households facing unforeseen financial difficulties.
  • Short Course Bursary

     

    (Tuition fee waiver): Support for students from low-income households undertaking UEL pre-entry short courses.
  • Helena Kennedy Foundation Bursaries

     

    (£2,250 over the duration of course): Support for disadvantaged students who have overcome significant barriers to continue with Higher Education.
